Sports Intelligence (Sports IQ) is a new concept, developed by Dr Garrath Rosslee for his Psychology doctorate.

It’s a new way to approach boosting your performance as an athlete – and promises to take you to the next level, no matter what level you are at right now. The good news is that you don’t have to be born with Sports IQ – you can learn it. And Garrath can show you how. He has worked with a wide variety of athletes and teams, at all levels, so he’s seen theory put into practice, and he knows that it works.

Our background

Who we are

Garrath Rosslee

Garrath Rosslee is not a sports psychologist. He is, however, a versatile industrial psychologist with a doctorate in Sports Intelligence. Furthermore, his extensive consulting, research and advisory experience in the fields of leadership, strategy implementation, turnaround and change management – all of which inform his approach to Sports IQ. He holds Master’s degrees in Industrial Psychology, Business Ethics and Strategy, has published a number of articles and chapters, is a guest lecturer at the University of Stellenbosch and completed his doctorate in Consulting Psychology in 2014. He is also in the process of publishing a book on Sports IQ, The Top Two Inches, based on his doctoral study, and which he co-wrote with Mandy Collins. He’s an avid sports fan and dabbles in triathlon on the weekends, and is passionate about helping all levels of athletes to take their performance up a notch.

The Top Two Inches

Dr Garrath Rosslee

The idea that elite athletes possess some kind of sporting intelligence is not a new idea, but the research around it has been quite scattered and piecemeal. It was time for a coherent theory of sports intelligence – which is what Garrath Rosslee tackled for his Psychology doctorate – and which he’s turned into an accessible book for athletes at all levels.

The best news about sports intelligence is that you don’t have to be born with it – you can learn it – and this book explains exactly what sports intelligence is, and how it can work for you. It both explains the theory, and gives you pointers on how to put it into practice.

So, whether you play a sport at club level and want to move yourself into the next league, or are a professional player who wants to compete internationally, this book is for you – it will give you an approach to boosting your performance, and help to take you to the next level.
